When Protection Became Control: What Your Body Knew Before Your Mind Did

Your hands are on your chest and you can't figure out why you feel so unsafe with someone who says they're protecting you. Nothing is wrong with you. Your body is doing exactly what it was designed to do. It's just stuck in a pattern where control was confused for care. In this clinical, but pastoral conversation, we unpack the arc so many survivors recognize — protected → controlling → trapped — and why your nervous system knew it was unsafe before your mind had words for it. I'm Elisha, a counselor and host of Elisha's Space, and today I'll walk you through how to sense it in your body using the S.A.F.E. Boundary Framework (Sense, Assess, Filter, Establish) and a guided somatic practice you can return to. This isn't visualization, this is physiology. His peace is not dependent on your circumstances being resolved. It is a regulated nervous system in the presence of a safe God. RESOURCES: Get the S.T.A.R.T.
